NIL pay may not be "pay for play" or a recruiting inducement; athletes may not miss mandatory team activities; GW may review any disclosed deal and sanction violations "up to and including suspension or dismissal from the team" and loss of athletics aid | GW Athletics, GW Student-Athlete NIL Policy (posted 2026-08-31) and NIL page |
| How deals are disclosed | NCAA: third-party deals of $600 or more go to NIL Go within five business days (Bylaws 22.2.2, 22.2.2.2); GW's policy also points athletes to NIL Go for those deals. GW's policy: disclose any paid NIL activity "at least seven (7) calendar days prior to entering into an agreement for the proposed activity, receiving the NIL compensation, or engaging in the proposed activity, whichever is earlier", plus a copy of every agreement with an NIL agent, through the NIL disclosure form in Motion; changes are reported within 10 days. D.C. law: a copy of any NIL agreement over $300 (and all deals once NIL pay passes $2,000 in a calendar year) goes to the school before pay or performance (D.C. Code § 38-1631.06); GW's policy restates this with an academic year | GW Athletics, NIL Policy (2026-08-31); NCAA Division I Manual 2026-27; /nil/college/district-of-columbia |

What is specific to George Washington
GW wrote its 2026 policy around the District's statutes. Its disclosure rule takes the earliest of three moments (signing, payment or performance) and sets seven days before it, ahead of D.C.'s own before-payment rule, and its agent section mirrors the D.C. athlete agent act, down to GW's duty to notify "the Mayor" when an agent breaks the disclosure rules. For international athletes, the department also publishes an International Student-Athlete NIL Info Sheet (2026-03-19) for F-1 students. It says "Activities that take place in the U.S. are considered unauthorized self-employment and could jeopardize visa status", that "Active income, regardless of the type of compensation, will jeopardize F-1 visa status if it is for work performed in the U.S.", that "Passive income does not jeopardize visa status" and "royalties MAY be passive income", and that "Activities that take place outside of the U.S. are not looked at by U.S. immigration". GW moved its NIL disclosures to Motion, a compliance and operations platform it adopted in June 2026.
How Leave fits
In Leave, every deal thread carries a rules summary for the athlete's state and level, and keeps the contract, its dates and the disclosure deadline that applies. It is a summary, not a ruling; the school and the law decide. Leave is software, not an agent, and takes 0% of any deal. You decide, you send.
