UNI NIL rules.

UNI (Northern Iowa) shares revenue through donor-funded Competitive Excellence Funds. Its NIL policy has athletes disclose deals in INFLCR within seven days.

The short answer. UNI Director of Athletics Megan Franklin said on 2025-08-15 that UNI "elected to opt-in to providing additional opportunities to support the student-athlete experience, including revenue share", paid for in part by sport-specific Competitive Excellence Funds held by the UNI Foundation; the College Sports Commission lists the University of Northern Iowa for 2026-27, with a cap of approximately $21.58 million per school. The same release says the Panther Collective, which supported UNI athletes' NIL "prior to July 1, 2025", "has now dissolved". UNI's posted NIL policy has athletes disclose every paid opportunity through the INFLCR app "within seven days of the agreement". Iowa has no college NIL statute.

What is specific to UNI

UNI is a public Board of Regents university that took its NIL support in-house during 2025. The Panther Collective, which a UNI feature had called "the only collective working with UNI student-athletes", supported athletes' NIL until July 1, 2025, and UNI says it "has now dissolved". In its place UNI opened the Competitive Excellence Funds, held by the UNI Foundation, so donors can give to a sport's revenue-sharing pool and deduct the gift but cannot pick the athlete; UNI then renamed its annual fund, the Panther Scholarship Club, the Ever Loyal Club on 2026-01-12 "to provide essential clarity and transparency about donor funds". A new position reflects the change: John Mosbach is Senior Associate Athletic Director for Development and NIL. The written NIL rules have not been updated in the same way; the policy on the compliance page dates from early 2022 and speaks of INFLCR, while UNI's fan marketplace runs on Opendorse and, in July 2026, UNI announced that Motion would replace its existing compliance system.

How Leave fits

In Leave, every deal thread carries a rules summary for the athlete's state and level, and keeps the contract, its dates and the disclosure deadline that applies. It is a summary, not a ruling; the school and the law decide. Leave is software, not an agent, and takes 0% of any deal. You decide, you send.

Questions about NIL at UNI

Does UNI pay its athletes?

UNI opted in to House settlement revenue sharing; Director of Athletics Megan Franklin said on 2025-08-15 that UNI "elected to opt-in to providing additional opportunities to support the student-athlete experience, including revenue share", and the College Sports Commission lists the University of Northern Iowa for 2026-27, with a cap of about $21.58 million per school. Donors fund it in part through sport-specific Competitive Excellence Funds at the UNI Foundation. UNI has not published how much it pays or how the money is split.

Is there still an NIL collective for Northern Iowa?

UNI says the Panther Collective supported athletes' NIL until July 1, 2025 and "has now dissolved". UNI's own channels now are the UNI Panthers NIL Marketplace on Opendorse for deals and the Competitive Excellence Funds for revenue-sharing gifts.

How do UNI Panthers report NIL deals?

UNI's NIL policy has athletes disclose every paid opportunity, cash or not, to Athletics Compliance through the INFLCR app within seven days of the agreement. Third-party deals of $600 or more also go to NIL Go within five business days under NCAA Bylaws 22.2.2 and 22.2.2.2.

Can UNI athletes use the Panther logo or team photos in NIL deals?

Only with prior written permission. UNI's FAQs say approval comes from the Licensing and Branding Office and a licensing fee may apply for paid deals, and UNI Athletics photos and videos, including those shared through INFLCR, may not be used in paid partnerships without approval or altered.

Can donors give money to a specific UNI athlete through the Competitive Excellence Funds?

No. UNI says gifts "cannot be directed to benefit a specific student-athlete" but can be designated to a team, and that athletes remain free to earn from NIL through endorsements and sponsorships.
