Wyoming NIL rules.

Wyoming pays athletes in five sports through NIL agreements with UW Athletics. Wyoming has no college NIL statute, so UW and NCAA rules govern deals and disclosure.

The short answer. Wyoming Athletics says that since 2025-07-01 it has shared revenue through NIL agreements with athletes in football, men's and women's basketball, volleyball and wrestling, and the College Sports Commission lists Wyoming for 2026-27 with a cap of about $21.58 million per school. Wyoming has no college NIL statute; UW's 2026-27 handbook says athletes "must disclose ALL external NIL transactions via NILGo.com". In a Pokes Insider interview posted by UW Athletics on 2026-02-20, Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance Peter Prigge said the One Wyoming collective "is no longer operating" and that donors can give to the Cowboy Joe Club "for NIL-related purposes".

School NIL policyUW Athletics "Student-Athlete Name/Image/Likeness Policies and Procedures", posted on the athletics site and printed in the 2026-27 Student-Athlete Handbook. It bars external NIL deals without a quid pro quo, deals contingent on enrolling or staying at UW, and pay contingent on athletic performance, noting that performance "may enhance a student-athlete's NIL value" but may not be the consideration. NIL activity may not conflict with team duties or academic requirements, and needs Compliance approval to take place on university grounds. How deals are disclosedThe 2026-27 handbook says athletes "must disclose ALL external NIL transactions via NILGo.com", including deals facilitated by UW Sports Properties (Learfield), and are required "(per NCAA rules)" to disclose applicable deals "no later than five days after entering or signing a NIL agreement"; it also says "Any external NIL deal valued at more than $600 must be reported via NIL Go". The policy page encourages disclosure of all NIL transactions to Compliance through Teamworks and says deals "totaling more than $600" go to Compliance and NIL Go. NCAA: third-party deals of $600 or more within five business days (Bylaws 22.2.2, 22.2.2.2). Banned categoriesWyoming law lists none for college athletes. UW bars NIL activity promoting alcohol and related establishments; athletics apparel that conflicts with team or department sponsors; gambling on NCAA-sponsored sports; illegal substances or activities; marijuana; tobacco; and "Inappropriate or lewd images/behavior as determined by the Director of Athletics/Designee". School marks and group licensingAthletes and third parties may not use UW trademarks, logos or copyrighted products "without the express written permission of UW Trademark and Licensing Office". UW's NIL page says athletes who opt into the Brandr group licensing program automatically take part in the Brown and Gold Team Shop (Adidas) and the Athlete's Thread NIL Shop and "receive a percentage of revenue from each sale"Wyoming Athletics, NIL Policy page and Name, Image and Likeness page
Revenue sharingWyoming Athletics' Step Forward page says: "As of July 1, 2025, the University of Wyoming has been engaged in 'revenue sharing' with its five revenue-generating sports (Football, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, Volleyball and Wrestling)", through NIL agreements with UW Athletics, with "roughly 75 student-athletes". The Step Forward for Football campaign with the Cowboy Joe Club (launched 2026-02-05) passed its $500,000 goal by 2026-04-28, and UW says every further dollar "directly supports revenue-sharing efforts"; a Step Forward for Basketball campaign launched 2026-04-10. In a Pokes Insider story posted 2026-07-01, Director of Athletics Tom Burman said of UW's share of MW+ streaming subscriptions, "our primary focus is this will be a revenue sharing stream". The College Sports Commission lists Wyoming for 2026-27 and puts the cap at "approximately $21.58 million per school" (read 2026-10-23). Collective or NIL groupIn a Pokes Insider interview on the UW athletics site (2026-02-20), Peter Prigge, UW's senior associate athletic director for compliance and Olympic sports, said of the One Wyoming collective, "It has now switched to in-house, and the collective is no longer operating", and that donors may give sport-specific gifts to the Cowboy Joe Club for NIL-related purposes. For third-party deals UW runs the Wyoming Athletics Exchange with Teamworks Influencer (launched 2025-08-22), free to athletes and businesses, with payment tools and 1099 tax formsWyoming Athletics, Pokes Insider (2026-02-20) and Wyoming Athletics Exchange release (2025-08-22)
Agents and representationUW's policy says athletes may hire an agent for NIL, that agents must follow the Wyoming Uniform Athlete Agent Act, that "All agents must be registered in the State of Wyoming under the UAAA" and that "All agents must be registered with the UW Compliance Office". Wyoming's act has no state registration: an agent hands the athlete a sworn disclosure form at first contact, both notify the athletic director at least 72 hours before and again within 72 hours after signing, and the athlete may cancel within 14 days (W.S. 33-44-101 to 33-44-114)Wyoming Athletics, NIL Policy page; /nil/college/wyoming

State lawWyoming has no college NIL statute; its only NIL law, W.S. 21-25-401 (effective 2026-07-01), covers high school amateur status, and its athlete agent act requires a disclosure form instead of registration; no statute/nil/college/wyoming

What is specific to Wyoming

Wyoming publishes more than most schools about how its revenue sharing works. Its Step Forward page names the five sports and the approximate number of athletes under agreement, and says UW pays through NIL agreements in which athletes promote the institution and department. In a Pokes Insider interview posted on the athletics site on 2026-02-20, Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance Peter Prigge described how UW sets up these contracts, using a hypothetical: they are "based on eligibility and retention" and typically backloaded, with payments at the start of the academic year, on February 1 and on June 1 after transfer portal windows have closed, and if an athlete leaves, "we terminate the agreement" and recoup part of the money. In the same interview he said the booster-formed One Wyoming collective "is no longer operating" and that gifts to the Cowboy Joe Club now build the pool for revenue sharing; UW Athletics says the Step Forward for Football campaign was built on a $125,000 personal contribution from head football coach Jay Sawvel (release of 2026-04-28). In a state with no college NIL law, UW's own policy and NCAA rules set the terms. UW's sponsorships also carry athlete NIL work: a 2025 Dairy Max campaign through Wyoming Sports Properties featured four athletes and was billed as "the first ever NIL opportunity presented to a live dairy cow".

How Leave fits

In Leave, every deal thread carries a rules summary for the athlete's state and level, and keeps the contract, its dates and the disclosure deadline that applies. It is a summary, not a ruling; the school and the law decide. Leave is software, not an agent, and takes 0% of any deal. You decide, you send.

Questions about NIL at Wyoming

Does Wyoming pay its athletes?

Yes, in five sports. Wyoming Athletics says that since 2025-07-01 it has shared revenue through NIL agreements with about 75 athletes in football, men's and women's basketball, volleyball and wrestling. The College Sports Commission lists Wyoming for 2026-27, with a cap of about $21.58 million per school. No per-athlete figures are published.

What happened to the One Wyoming collective?

In a Pokes Insider interview posted by UW Athletics on 2026-02-20, Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance Peter Prigge said "It has now switched to in-house, and the collective is no longer operating". He said donors can make sport-specific gifts to the Cowboy Joe Club "for NIL-related purposes", which fund UW's revenue sharing agreements.

How do Wyoming Cowboys athletes report NIL deals?

UW's 2026-27 handbook says all external NIL deals are disclosed in NIL Go, including deals arranged through Wyoming Sports Properties, within five days of signing. NCAA rules set five business days for third-party deals of $600 or more. Wyoming has no state disclosure law.

Does Wyoming have an NIL law for college athletes?

No. Wyoming's only NIL statute, W.S. 21-25-401 (effective 2026-07-01), applies to high school athletes. For UW athletes the rules come from UW's policy, the NCAA and the College Sports Commission, plus the state's athlete agent act.

Do agents have to register to work with UW athletes?

UW's policy says agents must register with the UW Compliance Office and follow the Wyoming Uniform Athlete Agent Act. That act has no state registration; it requires a sworn disclosure form at first contact and notice to the athletic director before and after an agency contract is signed.
