Missouri NIL rules.

Missouri committed the full 2025-26 revenue share; athletes report deals of $600 or more to NIL Go. State law has deals disclosed before signing and terms kept closed.

The short answer. Missouri Athletics Director Laird Veatch wrote on 2025-06-08 that Mizzou had "already committed to the full $20.5 million in 'revenue share' support to our student-athletes" for 2025-26, and the College Sports Commission lists the University of Missouri, Columbia as a participating school for 2026-27. Mizzou's 2025-26 Student-Athlete Handbook has athletes report NIL deals worth $600 or more to NIL Go, and Missouri law has an athlete disclose an NIL contract to the school before it is executed (RSMo 173.280.4(3)). Under Missouri law the terms of an NIL contract are a closed record under the Sunshine Law (RSMo 173.280.6(2); /nil/college/missouri).

School NIL policyMizzou's NIL rules are the "Name, Image, and Likeness" section of the 2025-26 Student-Athlete Handbook (linked from the compliance Current Student-Athletes page; the PDF is dated 2025-08-22). It says NIL deals with associated third-party entities must meet three conditions: the entity "must serve a valid business purpose", the activity "must be related to the promotion of goods or services offered to the public for profit", and the pay "must be commensurate with similarly situated individuals"; it also covers marks, facilities, team activities, memorabilia, professional service providers, taxes, need-based aid and international athletes. Older athletics pages, "Name, Image, and Likeness" and "Mizzou NIL Regulations and Guidelines" (which describes the 2023 state amendments), remain online with earlier rulesMizzou Athletics, Student-Athlete Handbook 2025-26; NIL pages
How deals are disclosedNIL Go for third-party deals of $600 or more within five business days (NCAA Bylaws 22.2.2, 22.2.2.2). Mizzou's 2025-26 handbook says athletes "must report NIL contracts or payment terms with a total value of $600 or more" to NIL Go, may designate one person to submit deals for them, and, if a deal is not approved, may revise it, cancel it and return the pay, or appeal to neutral arbitration; "Proceeding with an unapproved NIL deal may result in enforcement consequences, including a potential loss of eligibility". Mizzou's older NIL pages say athletes "must disclose all NIL activities and agreements prior to signing the agreement and prior to receiving compensation" through the Opendorse app. Missouri law has the athlete disclose an NIL or representation contract to the school, in a manner it prescribes, before it is executed (RSMo 173.280.4(3))Mizzou Student-Athlete Handbook 2025-26; Mizzou NIL pages; RSMo 173.280.4(3)
Banned categoriesNot published as a list. Missouri law sets no list of banned products or industries; it lets a school that licenses its marks for NIL restrict uses inconsistent with its values, harmful to its reputation or in conflict with its contracts (RSMo 173.280.4(5)(d)). Mizzou's handbook says "Missouri law prohibits student-athletes from entering into NIL agreements that conflict with existing contracts held by the University or Athletics Department", and its older NIL pages bar deals "with vendors associated with activities prohibited by NCAA rules, state or federal laws, or which conflict with institutional conduct expectations"Mizzou Student-Athlete Handbook 2025-26; Mizzou NIL pages; RSMo 173.280.4(5)
School marks and group licensingMizzou's handbook says athletes may reference their status as Mizzou athletes but may not use university logos, marks, phrases or copyrighted materials without prior written approval and a licensing agreement, through Mizzou Sports Properties (Learfield) or, for retail products, the Collegiate Licensing Company. It also says "Per Missouri law, content (e.g., photos, videos) created by the University or its vendors may not be used in compensated NIL activities", while non-commercial use is permitted. Athletes pay the going rate to use institutional facilities for fee-for-lesson purposes. The NIL page links a Mizzou NIL Store and Fanatics NIL gear. Revenue sharingThe College Sports Commission puts the 2026-27 cap at approximately $21.58 million per school and lists the University of Missouri, Columbia as a participating school for 2026-27. Veatch's letter of 2025-06-08 says Mizzou had "already committed to the full $20.5 million" for 2025-26 through ticket pricing and fundraising changes and "a significant reallocation of internal resources", plus "more than 60 new scholarships totaling approximately $3 million". The handbook lists "Settlement related benefits and expenses (e.g., institutional NIL or other payments)" among permissible benefits. No 2026-27 figure is published. Mizzou said on 2026-08-28 that it works "By leveraging the Learfield Impact NIL services, and in collaboration with Every True Tiger Brands". Every True Tiger Brands runs a "Photo of the Game" program through Mizzou's 2026 home football season, whose proceeds, the 2026-09-17 release says, "will benefit Every True Tiger Brands and support its efforts to create and fund NIL opportunities for Mizzou football student-athletes". Agents and representationMizzou's handbook says an athlete may use an attorney, agent or marketing provider for NIL, subject to the Missouri Uniform Athlete Agent Law; anyone negotiating or soliciting an endorsement contract for an athlete registers with the Missouri Division of Professional Registration and the Mizzou Athletics Compliance Office; athletes and agents notify the athletics director, via compliance, within 72 hours after an agency contract or before the next athletic event, whichever is first; an athlete may cancel within 14 days; and providers may not represent athletes for professional athletic opportunities. State lawMissouri's college NIL law (RSMo 173.280) is in force: an athlete discloses an NIL or representation contract to the school before it is executed, a school may pay athletes for NIL only where its own policy and its athletics association permit, and the terms of NIL contracts are closed records under the Sunshine Law/nil/college/missouri

What is specific to Missouri

Mizzou ties its NIL resources to sponsorship growth and to a state law that keeps deal terms out of public records. Veatch said on 2026-08-28 that "In less than three years, we have more than doubled our sponsorship revenue with over 130% growth, establishing significant NIL resources", and Mizzou describes an NIL setup that combines Learfield's Mizzou Sports Properties and Impact NIL services with Every True Tiger Brands, a third-party marketing agency. Missouri law makes the terms of an athlete's NIL contract a closed record that a public school may withhold (RSMo 173.280.6), and requires schools whose commercial agreements use athletes' NIL to offer at least two workshops a year; Mizzou's NIL page lists financial wellness, tax education, a tax lab with the Office for Financial Success, personal branding and LLC education. The handbook's athletics aid terms list, among grounds for cancelling or not renewing an award, failing "to timely disclose a contract, agreement, or other arrangement in accordance with state laws or NCAA rules".

How Leave fits

In Leave, every deal thread carries a rules summary for the athlete's state and level, and keeps the contract, its dates and the disclosure deadline that applies. It is a summary, not a ruling; the school and the law decide. Leave is software, not an agent, and takes 0% of any deal. You decide, you send.

Questions about NIL at Missouri

Does Missouri pay its athletes?

Mizzou's athletics director wrote on 2025-06-08 that Mizzou had committed "the full $20.5 million in 'revenue share' support" for 2025-26, along with more than 60 new scholarships. How do Mizzou athletes report NIL deals?

Mizzou's 2025-26 handbook has athletes report NIL deals worth $600 or more to NIL Go, which NCAA Bylaw 22.2.2.2 sets at within five business days, and lets an athlete name one person to submit for them. Missouri law also has athletes disclose an NIL contract to the school, in the manner the school sets, before it is executed (RSMo 173.280.4(3)); Mizzou's older NIL pages point to the Opendorse app for that disclosure.

Are Mizzou athletes' NIL contracts public?

Missouri law makes the terms of an NIL contract or proposed contract a closed record under the Sunshine Law, and a public school may withhold them without seeking an attorney general opinion (RSMo 173.280.6).

What is Every True Tiger Brands?

Mizzou Athletics describes Every True Tiger Brands, LLC as "the third-party marketing agency supporting Mizzou student-athlete name, image and likeness (NIL) opportunities". A 2026-08-26 Mizzou release says it was founded in 2022, and in the 2026 football season it runs a "Photo of the Game" program whose proceeds benefit it and its work funding NIL opportunities for Mizzou football athletes. Mizzou says it works with Every True Tiger Brands alongside Learfield's Impact NIL services.

Can Mizzou athletes use Mizzou logos in NIL deals?

Mizzou's handbook says athletes may say they are Mizzou athletes but may not use university logos, marks, phrases or copyrighted materials without prior written approval and a licensing agreement through Mizzou Sports Properties (Learfield) or the Collegiate Licensing Company. It also says university-created photos and videos may not be used in paid NIL activity.
