| School NIL policy | "Department of Athletics Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) Policy", linked as "SLU NIL Policy" from SLU's NIL page (file posted 2022-04-11; the document was created in July 2021 and says "This is a new policy"). It allows third-party pay for "services, activities, intellectual property, appearances, or other value actually provided" and not for athletic performance, and says "Student-athletes are entitled to compensation only from noninstitutional entities and not from the institution". Its procedures section says "Additional procedural information will be provided as Missouri Legislation is passed." No later version was found | Saint Louis University Athletics, NIL Policy (2021) and NIL page |
| How deals are disclosed | NIL Go for third-party deals of $600 or more within five business days (NCAA Bylaws 22.2.2, 22.2.2.2). SLU's policy: "Student-athletes must disclose any NIL Activity to University that results in compensation before any contract ... is executed, and before any compensation is provided to the student athlete in advance of a contract", using the INFLCR app; SLU keeps NIL records for seven years. Deals done through the Billiken Exchange "automate a disclosure to the INFLCR Verified Compliance Ledger". Missouri law also requires disclosure to the school before signing (RSMo 173.280.4(3)) | SLU Athletics, NIL Policy and NIL page; NCAA Division I Manual 2026-27; /nil/college/missouri |
| Banned categories | Missouri law lists no banned products. SLU's policy bars endorsements or business in "categories that conflict with NCAA legislation (i.e., banned substances and sports wagering) or institutional values (e.g., adult entertainment or any activity, product or service deemed by the University to be inconsistent with the University's Mission, Identity and values as a Catholic Jesuit institution)". It also bars apparel, equipment or beverage deals that require advertising during official team activities where they conflict with SLU's current licenses or contracts | SLU Athletics, NIL Policy; /nil/college/missouri |
| School marks and group licensing | The policy bars use of SLU's name, logo, marks or other intellectual property in noninstitutional NIL activity "without the University's express written permission on a per use basis". The NIL page says an NIL contract "does not automatically allow a business to use SLU trademarks", that requests go through the Trademarks and Licensing Program, and that SLU "will not consider requests from companies that are direct competitors of our current sponsors and/or partners". Group merchandise: the Billikens NIL Store powered by Campus Ink sells "officially licensed NIL merchandise". Billiken Sports Properties (Learfield) handles sponsorships that pair athletes with the SLU brand | SLU Athletics, NIL Policy, NIL page and Trademarks and Licensing |
| Revenue sharing | SLU's November 2025 accreditation filing says that on 2025-02-28 "The full Board, upon the recommendation of the Athletics Committee, authorized SLU's Director of Athletics to opt in to the House vs. NCAA Settlement on behalf of the University." The College Sports Commission lists SLU for 2026-27 and puts the cap at "approximately $21.58 million per school" (read 2026-10-23). No SLU amount or allocation is published, and SLU's posted NIL policy (2021) has not been updated to describe school payments. A 2026-05-26 athletics release quotes Athletic Director Chris May that the Billiken Golf Classic generated "important support for our operational and NIL initiatives". Missouri law lets a school pay for NIL only where its own policy and its athletics association permit (RSMo 173.280.4(4)) | Saint Louis University, Assurance Argument (2025-11-03); SLU Athletics, Billiken Golf Classic recap (2026-05-26); College Sports Commission; /nil/college/missouri |
| Collective or NIL group | Billiken Victory Fund. SLU's NIL page calls it "an independently run NIL Collective" that raises funds and creates partnerships for SLU athletes, and links its site; that site (read 2026-10-23) says it "is the preferred NIL partner of Saint Louis University, and is independent from the University". SLU's Billiken Club page says the University "cannot accept tax-deductible donations intended for an individual student-athlete" and routes support for a specific athlete's NIL opportunity to the compliance office. SLU's own channel is the Billiken Exchange, an INFLCR registry launched 2022-04-19; "Neither SLU nor INFLCR receives any revenue from NIL transactions" in it | SLU Athletics, NIL page and Billiken Exchange release (2022-04-19); Billiken Victory Fund; SLU, The Billiken Club |
| Agents and representation | The policy says athletes "may utilize the services of any professional services provider", defined as "Any individual licensed in the State of Missouri to provide professional representation", including athlete agents, financial advisors and attorneys; SLU may help evaluate a provider but may not "Pay for, provide, or facilitate" the relationship. The compliance page links Missouri athlete agent registration and a Saint Louis University Agent Registration questionnaire. Missouri law: NIL representation "shall be by attorneys or agents licensed by this state", in writing, and agents register with the Division of Professional Registration | SLU Athletics, NIL Policy and Compliance; /nil/college/missouri |
| Compliance contact | Saint Louis University Athletics Compliance, 3330 Laclede Ave., St. Louis, MO 63103. The compliance page and staff directory list Melissa Burke, Assistant Director of Athletics/Compliance and NIL, 314-977-3509; SLU's Billiken Club page gives melissa.burke@slu.edu for NIL support of a specific athlete | SLU Athletics, Compliance and Staff Directory (read 2026-10-23); SLU, The Billiken Club |
| State law | In force. Missouri's RSMo 173.280 covers athletes at a "public or private college or university subject to the coordinating board for higher education under section 173.005", requires disclosure of an NIL or representation contract to the school before signing, lets a school pay for NIL only where its own policy and its athletics association permit, and limits representation to attorneys or agents licensed in Missouri. Whether SLU, a private university, is "subject to the coordinating board" in that sense is not settled by the statute's text; SLU's NIL page says NIL activity is "in accordance with NCAA rules, Missouri state law, and Saint Louis University NIL policy", and its compliance page links the statute | /nil/college/missouri |
What is specific to Saint Louis
Saint Louis University (not Washington University in St. Louis or the University of Missouri-St. Louis) is a private Catholic Jesuit university, and its NIL policy ties banned categories to that identity. Its clearest published step on revenue sharing is a board vote: a November 2025 accreditation filing records that the Board of Trustees, on the Athletics Committee's recommendation, authorized the athletic director on 2025-02-28 to opt in to the House settlement, and the same filing lists among strategic-planning questions "What should SLU's approach be in the new environment of the NCAA: Roster limits, scholarships, revenue sharing, and other changes?" The written NIL policy has not caught up: it still says athletes are paid only by outside entities. SLU's NIL page sets out four separate routes for supporters (the INFLCR Billiken Exchange, the independent Billiken Victory Fund, Billiken Sports Properties for brand sponsorships with athletes, and the Campus Ink NIL Store), each with its own contact. On 2026-04-27 SLU dropped men's and women's tennis, leaving 16 Division I programs, with Athletic Director Chris May citing "long-term sustainability and success".
How Leave fits
In Leave, every deal thread carries a rules summary for the athlete's state and level, and keeps the contract, its dates and the disclosure deadline that applies. It is a summary, not a ruling; the school and the law decide. Leave is software, not an agent, and takes 0% of any deal. You decide, you send.
Questions about NIL at Saint Louis
Does Saint Louis University pay its athletes?
SLU's board authorized its athletic director to opt in to the House settlement on 2025-02-28, per SLU's November 2025 accreditation filing, and the College Sports Commission lists SLU as participating in revenue sharing for 2026-27, with a cap of about $21.58 million per school. SLU has not published amounts or how it divides the money, and its posted 2021 NIL policy still describes pay only from outside entities.
What NIL collective works with Saint Louis University?
SLU's NIL page names the Billiken Victory Fund as "an independently run NIL Collective" and links to it. The Fund's own site calls itself "the preferred NIL partner of Saint Louis University, and is independent from the University".
How do SLU athletes report NIL deals?
SLU's policy requires disclosure through the INFLCR app before a paid NIL contract is signed and before any advance payment. NCAA Bylaws 22.2.2 and 22.2.2.2 add NIL Go reporting for third-party deals of $600 or more within five business days, and Missouri law also requires disclosure to the school before signing.
Does Missouri's NIL law apply to Saint Louis University as a private school?
The statute, RSMo 173.280, covers a "public or private college or university subject to the coordinating board for higher education under section 173.005". The text does not say whether a private university such as SLU is "subject to the coordinating board" in that sense. SLU's own NIL page says NIL activity is "in accordance with NCAA rules, Missouri state law, and Saint Louis University NIL policy", and its compliance page links the statute.
Can a business use the SLU or Billiken name in an NIL deal with a Billiken athlete?
Not automatically. SLU's NIL page says use of university marks, including the Billiken, uniforms and school colors, needs prior approval through the Trademarks and Licensing Program, and that requests from direct competitors of SLU sponsors will not be considered.
Can I donate to a specific SLU athlete?
SLU's Billiken Club page says the University "cannot accept tax-deductible donations intended for an individual student-athlete" and lists the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance/NIL as the contact for supporting a specific athlete's NIL opportunity.
