Liberty NIL rules.

Liberty says it opted into the House settlement and that NIL pay from Liberty needs a Designated Individual's approval. Deals go to INFLCR before signing.

The short answer. Liberty's Athletics NIL Policy (updated effective 2025-07-01) says "Liberty University has opted into the Settlement", and that athletes may receive NIL pay directly from Liberty "only when such compensation is explicitly directed and authorized" by the Athletic Director or a designee. Athletes disclose proposed deals through INFLCR before signing, and report noninstitutional deals of $600 or more to NIL Go within five business days. The College Sports Commission puts the 2026-27 cap at approximately $21.58 million per school. Virginia law bans nine deal categories and covers private colleges like Liberty (/nil/college/virginia).

What is specific to Liberty

Liberty folds NIL into its own departments and mission. Its Soar initiative (page posted 2020-10-28) teaches brand management, social media, financial planning, contracts and NIL agents, and points athletes to campus resources open to all students, such as the Intellectual Property Clinic and the Center for Financial Literacy. Since the House settlement, donors give to NIL through Flames Club Sport Excellence Funds tied to teams rather than through outside collectives, and any NIL pay from Liberty itself runs through a single "Designated Individual" named by the Athletic Director; the policy adds that coaches and staff "are not authorized to sign contracts on behalf of Liberty". The policy also lets Liberty, at its discretion, allow athletes to promote NIL activity while on call, but never inside the game-day facility, medical facilities or training rooms, and it applies Liberty's own code, The Liberty Way, to every deal.

How Leave fits

In Leave, every deal thread carries a rules summary for the athlete's state and level, and keeps the contract, its dates and the disclosure deadline that applies. It is a summary, not a ruling; the school and the law decide. Leave is software, not an agent, and takes 0% of any deal. You decide, you send.

Questions about NIL at Liberty

Does Liberty pay its athletes?

Liberty's NIL policy says it opted into the House settlement and may pay athletes for NIL directly, but only when the pay is "explicitly directed and authorized" by the Athletic Director or his designee, the "Designated Individual", and agreed to in writing. The College Sports Commission lists Liberty for 2026-27, with a cap of approximately $21.58 million per school. Liberty has not published a total.

How do Liberty athletes report NIL deals?

Liberty's policy asks athletes to disclose proposed agreements through INFLCR before signing, as a disclosure and review step rather than an approval. Noninstitutional deals worth $600 or more also go to NIL Go within five business days of signing.

What NIL collective works with Liberty?

Liberty names no collective. Its 2025-06-25 release says donors now support NIL through Flames Club Sport Excellence Funds for the teams they choose, and it thanked fans who had given through third-party collectives before. Businesses can reach athletes through the Flames Exchange.

What can't Liberty athletes promote?

Virginia law and Liberty's policy bar NIL pay tied to gambling and sports betting, alcohol, adult entertainment, cannabis, controlled substances, performance enhancing drugs, drug paraphernalia, tobacco and vaping products, and weapons including firearms. Deals also may not conflict with The Liberty Way or NCAA and conference rules.

Can a Liberty athlete's NIL agent contract last past college?

Not under Liberty's policy, which says representation contracts with lawyers and agents for NIL "may not be for longer than the duration of the student-athlete's athletic career at Liberty" and may not cover a future professional contract.
