Alcorn State NIL rules.

Alcorn State is on the College Sports Commission's 2026-27 revenue-sharing list. Its only posted NIL rules are a July 2021 interim guidance sheet; NIL Go applies.

The short answer. The College Sports Commission lists Alcorn State among the schools participating in revenue sharing in 2026-27, with a cap of approximately $21.58 million per school; Alcorn has published no statement or figure of its own. The only NIL document linked from Alcorn Athletics' menu is a one-page "Interim Guidance for Name, Image, & Likeness" from July 2021, which has athletes disclose deals to the Office of Athletic Compliance. Third-party deals of $600 or more also go to NIL Go within five business days (NCAA Bylaws 22.2.2, 22.2.2.2), and Mississippi law bans listed deal categories (/nil/college/mississippi).

How deals are disclosedNIL Go for third-party deals of $600 or more within five business days (NCAA Bylaws 22.2.2, 22.2.2.2). Alcorn's 2021 guidance says athletes "will be required to disclose all NIL activities to the institution after entering into an agreement. This is NOT an approval process", that a third-party service would handle disclosure, and, in a separate line, that the athlete "shall provide disclosure to the Alcorn Athletic Department, Office of Athletic Compliance of endorsement deals before the deal can become effective". Banned categoriesMississippi's statute bars deals promoting gambling, sports betting, controlled substances, marijuana, tobacco, alternative or electronic nicotine products, alcohol or adult entertainment, or anything reasonably considered inconsistent with the school's values or mission or that, in the school's sole judgment, reflects adversely on the school or its athletic programs (Miss. Code 37-97-107(7)). Revenue sharingThe College Sports Commission lists Alcorn State University (Southwestern Athletic Conference) as a participating school for 2026-27 and puts the cap at "approximately $21.58 million per school" (read 2026-10-22). Alcorn has published no revenue-sharing statement or amount. Its 2021 guidance said the university, the athletics department or staff "MAY NOT compensate or arrange for compensation of" an athlete for NIL; that sheet predates the House settlement and Mississippi's 2025 amendment, which gives schools the right to share athletics revenue (Miss. Agents and representationAlcorn's 2021 guidance says athletes may use NIL professional service providers "(i.e. agent or lawyer) ONLY for NIL activities and NOT for future professional athletics contract negotiations and/or representation", that an attorney or agent "must be licensed and/or registered to practice in the state of Mississippi", and that the athlete gives the school "seven days' advance notice" of choosing one. Mississippi law: an agreement to negotiate NIL pay is an agency contract, agents register with the Secretary of State, agent pay is capped at 20% of the agency contract, and the athlete may cancel within 14 days (Miss. Code 73-42-3, 73-42-7, 73-42-23). The statute's own seven-day notice and Mississippi-attorney rules were removed in 2024Alcorn State Athletics, Interim Guidance (2021); /nil/college/mississippi

What is specific to Alcorn State

Alcorn State's published NIL rules are a single page written in the first weeks of college NIL. The July 2021 "Interim Guidance for Name, Image, & Likeness: What Student-Athletes Should Know", still the target of the "NIL" link in Alcorn Athletics' menu, was written to align with NCAA rules and "any applicable state or federal guidance", and several of its lines track the 2021 Mississippi statute: athletes could hire an agent or lawyer only for NIL work, had to use a representative licensed or registered in Mississippi and give seven days' notice before choosing one, and disclosed deals to compliance, which the sheet says "is NOT an approval process". It adds two points aimed at Alcorn's students: "Pell Grant or need-based financial aid could be affected by compensation from Name, Image, and Likeness agreements", with questions directed to the Office of Financial Aid, and international athletes "shall not engage in any NIL activities without first discussing" them with compliance and the international student office. The sheet promised a fuller conflict of interest policy "on or about August 1, 2021"; none is posted. Mississippi has since removed the seven-day notice and Mississippi-attorney rules from its statute (2024) and, since 2025-07-01, lets schools share athletics revenue, and the College Sports Commission lists Alcorn as a revenue-sharing school for 2026-27. In August 2026 Alcorn named a men's basketball General Manager whose listed duties include "NIL opportunities".

How Leave fits

In Leave, every deal thread carries a rules summary for the athlete's state and level, and keeps the contract, its dates and the disclosure deadline that applies. It is a summary, not a ruling; the school and the law decide. Leave is software, not an agent, and takes 0% of any deal. You decide, you send.

Questions about NIL at Alcorn State

Does Alcorn State pay its athletes?

The College Sports Commission lists Alcorn State as a school participating in revenue sharing for 2026-27, when the cap is approximately $21.58 million per school. Alcorn has published no statement on how much it will share or how. Mississippi law has given schools the right to share athletics revenue with athletes since 2025-07-01 (Miss. Code 37-97-105(1)); Alcorn's 2021 NIL guidance, written before that, said the school may not pay athletes for NIL.

How do Alcorn State athletes report NIL deals?

Third-party deals of $600 or more go to NIL Go within five business days (NCAA Bylaws 22.2.2, 22.2.2.2). Alcorn's 2021 interim guidance also has athletes disclose NIL activity to the Office of Athletic Compliance; one line says disclosure comes "after entering into an agreement" and is "NOT an approval process", and another says endorsement deals are disclosed "before the deal can become effective". The office is at 601.877.6115.

Can NIL money affect financial aid at Alcorn State?

Alcorn's 2021 guidance says NIL pay "SHALL NOT impact a student athlete's existing athletic aid/scholarship award", but that "Pell Grant or need-based financial aid could be affected", case by case, with questions directed to Alcorn's Office of Financial Aid. Mississippi's statute no longer contains its 2021 scholarship protection, which was removed in 2024.

Does an NIL agent need a Mississippi license to work with an Alcorn State athlete?

Alcorn's 2021 guidance says an attorney or agent "must be licensed and/or registered to practice in the state of Mississippi". Mississippi's agent act treats an agreement to negotiate NIL pay as an agency contract, so the agent registers with the Secretary of State, may take no more than 20% of the agency contract, and the athlete may cancel within 14 days. The statute's separate Mississippi-attorney rule was removed in 2024.

What NIL deals are banned at Alcorn State?

Mississippi law bars deals promoting gambling, sports betting, controlled substances, marijuana, tobacco, electronic nicotine products, alcohol or adult entertainment, or anything the school judges to reflect adversely on it (Miss. Code 37-97-107(7)). Alcorn's 2021 guidance adds performance-enhancing supplements to its own list.
