The rules at Coastal Carolina
| Question | What is published | Source |
|---|---|---|
| School NIL policy | Not published. Coastal's NIL Information page links the Chants Reach Up Exchange, the Coastal Sports Collective and NIL merchandise, and restates the NCAA's 2021 "Name, Image and Likeness Interim Policy"; the compliance pages link no Coastal NIL policy | Coastal Carolina Athletics, NIL Information and Compliance (read 2026-10-23) |
| How deals are disclosed | NCAA: third-party deals of $600 or more go to NIL Go within five business days (Bylaws 22.2.2, 22.2.2.2). Coastal has not published a disclosure rule of its own; its 2024 INFLCR release says athletes "can now complete their NIL activities on one platform and with one login". South Carolina has had no disclosure-to-school statute for NIL since 2024, though the agent act's 72-hour notice applies to agency contracts | NCAA 2026-27 Division I Manual; Coastal Carolina Athletics (2024-03-12); /nil/college/south-carolina |
| Banned categories | State law bars NIL pay for endorsing tobacco, alcohol, illegal substances or activities, banned athletic substances and gambling including sports betting, and lets a school bar uses that conflict with "institutional values as defined by the institution" (§ 59-158-40(A)). Coastal's own list: Not published | /nil/college/south-carolina |
| School marks and group licensing | Not published as a policy. Coastal's NIL page links an NIL merchandise store described as "officially licensed Coastal Carolina NIL merchandise". In October 2026 Coastal said Senior Associate AD Cade McGlynn would oversee "revenue-generating efforts and licensing" | Coastal Carolina Athletics, NIL Information and staff release (2026-10-15) |
| Revenue sharing | The College Sports Commission lists Coastal as participating in 2026-27 and puts the cap at approximately $21.58 million per school. Coastal's Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics & University Recreation, Chance Miller, wrote on 2025-06-08: "we can now share revenue directly with student-athletes. We will prioritize this initiative through reallocated spending and new revenue streams from events, concerts, New Apparel Lines", and he named philanthropic donations as the most important source. No Coastal figure is published | Coastal Carolina Athletics, "A Letter To Teal Nation" (2025-06-08); College Sports Commission |
| Collective or NIL group | Coastal announced the Coastal Sports Collective on 2024-03-20 as the "new official NIL collective", "not directly affiliated with Coastal Carolina University Athletics". Miller's 2025-06-08 letter thanks "the Coastal Collective and Legacy 14" and says Coastal will build on their efforts "by bringing these operations in-house under the Chanticleer Athletic Foundation". Coastal's NIL page, read on 2026-10-23, still lists the Coastal Sports Collective with the line "Learn more about NIL opportunities through the Coastal Sports Collective". Coastal has published nothing newer on either | Coastal Carolina Athletics (2024-03-20, 2025-06-08, NIL Information read 2026-10-23) |
| Agents and representation | Coastal's Agents page, headed "Athletes Seeking Professional Athletic Career", links an Agent Registration Form and asks for cooperation with "the State of South Carolina's law regarding agents, and Coastal Carolinas own agent policy"; that policy is not posted. State law: an NIL contract is an agency contract, agents register with the Department of Consumer Affairs, NIL agent fees are capped at 20 percent, and the athlete may cancel within 14 days | Coastal Carolina Athletics, Agents; /nil/college/south-carolina |
| Compliance contact | Coastal Carolina Athletics Compliance Office, Arcadia Hall; (843) 349-2029; athleticscompliance@coastal.edu | Coastal Carolina Athletics, NCAA Compliance (read 2026-10-23) |
| State law | South Carolina lets schools and their staff create and facilitate NIL deals, bars appropriated funds for NIL pay, bans five endorsement categories, bars association penalties for what its chapter allows, and keeps NIL records and per-athlete revenue-sharing amounts out of public records (in force) | /nil/college/south-carolina |
What is specific to Coastal Carolina
Coastal Carolina has built its NIL work through outside partners more than through written policy. In February 2024 it brought in Altius Sports Partners to place an in-house NIL general manager, which Coastal called "the first of its kind in the Sun Belt Conference", and in May 2024 named alumnus and former football captain Nicholas Clark to the role. In March 2024 it opened the Chants Reach Up Exchange with INFLCR, where, Coastal said, "INFLCR and Coastal Carolina will not be involved in any of the negotiations". After the House settlement, Chance Miller's June 2025 letter said NIL operations would move in-house under the Chanticleer Athletic Foundation. The public pages have not caught up: on 2026-10-23 the NIL page still restated the NCAA's 2021 interim policy and still listed the Coastal Sports Collective that the 2025 letter said would be brought in-house.
How Leave fits
In Leave, every deal thread carries a rules summary for the athlete's state and level, and keeps the contract, its dates and the disclosure deadline that applies. It is a summary, not a ruling; the school and the law decide. Leave is software, not an agent, and takes 0% of any deal. You decide, you send.
Questions about NIL at Coastal Carolina
Does Coastal Carolina pay its athletes?
Coastal said in June 2025 that it "can now share revenue directly with student-athletes" and plans to fund it through reallocated spending, new revenue and donations. The College Sports Commission lists Coastal for 2026-27, with a cap of about $21.58 million per school. Coastal has not published a figure. South Carolina law bars schools from using appropriated funds for NIL pay.
What NIL collective works with Coastal Carolina?
Coastal announced the Coastal Sports Collective as its official collective in March 2024, and its NIL page still listed it on 2026-10-23. Coastal's June 2025 letter says NIL operations are moving in-house under the Chanticleer Athletic Foundation. Coastal has not published which of the two describes 2026-27.
How do Coastal Carolina athletes report NIL deals?
Through NIL Go: the NCAA requires third-party deals of $600 or more to be reported within five business days. Coastal has not published its own disclosure rule. If an agent is involved, South Carolina's agent act has the agent and athlete notify the athletic director within 72 hours after signing or before the next athletic event, whichever is first.
Can Coastal Carolina athletes promote sports betting?
No. South Carolina law bars NIL pay for endorsing gambling, including sports betting, along with tobacco, alcohol, illegal substances and banned athletic substances. Coastal has not published an added list.
Who runs NIL at Coastal Carolina?
Coastal named Nicholas Clark as its first in-house NIL general manager in May 2024 through Altius Sports Partners, and in June 2025 said NIL operations would be brought under the Chanticleer Athletic Foundation. Compliance questions go to the Athletics Compliance Office in Arcadia Hall.
