The Citadel NIL rules.

The Citadel is on the 2026-27 revenue-sharing list. Its July 2026 handbook points athletes to NIL Go for deals of $600 or more; older forms ask for disclosure first.

The short answer. The Citadel announced on 2025-11-13 that it "intends to opt-in" to the House settlement for 2026-27, a Board of Visitors decision announced by its president, and the College Sports Commission lists it for 2026-27, with a cap of about $21.58 million per school. Its 2026-27 Student-Athlete Handbook (updated July 2026) says deals of $600 or more are disclosed through NIL Go and that institutions "can now assist student-athletes with NIL opportunities". The compliance page still posts a 2021 quick sheet and disclosure form that ask for disclosure to The Citadel before any NIL activity. South Carolina law (/nil/college/south-carolina) applies.

What is specific to The Citadel

At The Citadel the athletics rules sit beside the regulations of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets. The 2026-27 Student-Athlete Handbook (updated July 2026) has a "Student-Athlete Employment" section that quotes, as from The Citadel Blue Book, that students "will not accept off-campus employment during the school year" and need written permission from the Commandant and the Director of Human Resources to work on campus. The Blue Book posted for 2026-27, dated as of 31 August 2026, does not contain that sentence; its table of offenses lists "Unauthorized Employment (on or off campus)" as a Class II offense, code 246. Neither the handbook's employment section nor the Blue Book mentions NIL. The handbook's separate NIL section says that as of August 1, 2024, "new rules allow athletes to pursue NIL opportunities without limitations imposed by the NCAA, conferences, or universities". The handbook also quotes the White Book that the team travel and warm-up uniform may be worn "ONLY for Athletic events in Athletic venues" and that "Otherwise cadet uniforms are required", and the 2021 quick sheet answers "No" to wearing a Citadel uniform in NIL activities.

How Leave fits

In Leave, every deal thread carries a rules summary for the athlete's state and level, and keeps the contract, its dates and the disclosure deadline that applies. It is a summary, not a ruling; the school and the law decide. Leave is software, not an agent, and takes 0% of any deal. You decide, you send.

Questions about NIL at The Citadel

Does The Citadel pay its athletes?

The Citadel announced on 2025-11-13 that it "intends to opt-in" to the House settlement for 2026-27, the model that lets schools share revenue directly with athletes, and the College Sports Commission lists it for 2026-27 with a 2026-27 cap of about $21.58 million per school. The Citadel has not published a figure. Its president said in the release, "Through the commitment of our donors, we will continue to take steps to compete for championships for years to come." South Carolina law bars appropriated funds from paying athletes for NIL.

Do The Citadel's cadet employment rules mention NIL?

Not in the texts posted on 2026-10-24. The 2026-27 Student-Athlete Handbook (updated July 2026) quotes, as from the Blue Book, that students "will not accept off-campus employment during the school year". The Blue Book posted for 2026-27 (as of 31 August 2026) does not contain that sentence and lists "Unauthorized Employment (on or off campus)" as a Class II offense. Neither text mentions NIL; the handbook covers NIL in a separate section. The handbook names the Compliance Office (843-953-5352) for rules questions.

How do Citadel athletes report NIL deals?

The 2026-27 handbook says deals of $600 or more are disclosed through NIL Go; the NCAA sets a five business day deadline. The compliance page still links a 2021 Citadel disclosure form to be completed before any NIL activity, one per agreement. If an agent is involved, South Carolina's agent act has the agent and athlete notify the athletic director within 72 hours after signing or before the next athletic event, whichever is first.

Can Citadel athletes use the school's logo or uniform in NIL deals?

The Citadel's 2021 NIL quick sheet answers "No" to using Citadel logos, wearing a Citadel uniform or apparel, and using Citadel facilities in NIL activities, and "Yes" to saying the athlete competes for The Citadel. No newer marks rule is posted.

Is The Citadel the same school as the College of Charleston?

No. The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, is in Charleston and plays in the Southern Conference. The College of Charleston is a separate school in the CAA, and Charleston Southern is another separate school. Each publishes its own NIL rules.
