The rules at Fordham
| Question | What is published | Source |
|---|---|---|
| School NIL policy | "Fordham University Name, Image & Likeness Policy", posted 2023-10-24 and announced with The Rose Hill Exchange on 2023-11-13, linked from the compliance and NIL pages. It says it "complies with N.Y. Educ. Law § 6438-C", that the Athletics Department "will not be involved in securing, negotiating, and/or assisting" NIL deals, that NIL pay will not reduce athletic scholarships during the award period (need-based aid may be affected), and that athletes may not miss class or required team activities for NIL. The Athletics Department's monitoring "will not be considered a formal 'approval process'". NIL FAQs and definitions (December 2023) accompany it | Fordham Athletics, NIL Policy (2023-10-24) and NIL FAQs (December 2023) |
| How deals are disclosed | NCAA: third-party deals of $600 or more go to NIL Go within five business days (Bylaws 22.2.2, 22.2.2.2). Fordham's policy: athletes "must disclose any and all NIL activities that may result in compensation" within 30 days of receiving pay or signing, whichever comes first, through the link in the policy. The "NIL for Donors/Fans" page (posted 2021) says instead that a proposed contract is disclosed "seven days prior to the proposed activity" and that "Until the ACO reviews and approves, the student-athlete may not engage in the proposed activity". New York law: the athlete "shall disclose the contract in advance of executing it" to the official the college designates (§ 6438-c(6)(b)) | Fordham Athletics, NIL Policy (2023), NIL FAQs (2023) and NIL for Donors/Fans; NCAA Division I Manual 2026-27; /nil/college/new-york |
| Banned categories | New York's statute lists no banned categories but lets a college assert a conflict on listed grounds, including "financial loss or reputational damage" (§ 6438-c(6)(d)). Fordham's policy bars sports gambling and gambling "in any format", including casinos, daily fantasy and online sports wagering; performance enhancing drugs, cannabis, tobacco, smokeless tobacco, vaping, prescription pharmaceuticals, illegal drugs and alcohol; adult entertainment, pornography and gentlemen's clubs; deals conflicting with Fordham's Nike agreement or its "academic missions, Jesuit values"; activity that could cause "financial loss or reputational damage"; disparaging or harassing content; and AI promotion contrary to Fordham's mission or values | Fordham Athletics, NIL Policy (2023); /nil/college/new-york |
| School marks and group licensing | Athletes and outside entities "may not use Fordham University branding or trademarks without prior approval", and may not use Athletics photos or videos with Fordham marks in paid NIL activity without written approval; Fordham says it will answer requests "within a reasonable time". Group licensing: Fordham's NIL page says it signed with OneTeam Partners in 2022 (personalized merchandise with Fordham marks through Fanatics), and Fordham and The Brandr Group launched a group licensing program for all varsity teams on 2023-12-07 | Fordham Athletics, NIL Policy (2023), Fordham and NIL page and Brandr Group release (2023-12-07) |
| Revenue sharing | The College Sports Commission lists Fordham University as participating in 2026-27 and puts the cap at "approximately $21.58 million per school" (read 2026-10-23). Not published by Fordham: no revenue-sharing statement or allocation was found on its athletics site, and its 2023 NIL policy predates school payments. New York's statute bars colleges from paying prospective athletes for NIL (§ 6438-c(3)) and does not address enrolled athletes | College Sports Commission; /nil/college/new-york |
| Collective or NIL group | Not published: no NIL collective is named on Fordham's athletics site as of 2026-10-23. Fordham's official NIL channels are The Rose Hill Exchange (Teamworks/INFLCR, launched 2023-11-13), where businesses find and contact athletes, and Student Athlete Empowerment (SAE), a division of Student-Athlete NIL, which Fordham partnered with on 2021-10-19 to take NIL requests, negotiate and hold payments in escrow; the donors page still sends businesses to SAE through Fordham's NIL contact | Fordham Athletics, Rose Hill Exchange release (2023-11-13), SAE release (2021-10-19) and NIL for Donors/Fans |
| Agents and representation | Fordham's policy allows agents, attorneys and financial advisors for NIL and says, citing New York law, that representation for activity in the state "must be from individuals registered and/or licensed by the state of New York"; representation by alumni or boosters is disclosed by email to athleticscompliance@fordham.edu and paid at general-public rates. Its December 2023 NIL FAQs say an agent is "limited to only providing counsel to the NIL agreement, not for future professional playing opportunities". New York law: athlete agents register with the Secretary of State under General Business Law article 39-E, the agent and athlete notify the athletic director within 72 hours of signing, and the athlete may cancel within five days | Fordham Athletics, NIL Policy (2023) and NIL FAQs (2023); /nil/college/new-york |
| Compliance contact | Fordham Athletics Compliance Office, athleticscompliance@fordham.edu (NIL page); Christopher Ray, 718-817-4305, and Ryan Harkins, 718-817-0868 (Compliance page) | Fordham Athletics, Fordham and NIL page and Compliance |
| State law | In force. N.Y. Educ. Law § 6438-c lets athletes earn from NIL and hire registered agents or New York lawyers, has athletes disclose each contract to the college before signing, and lets the college assert conflicts on listed grounds; the statute does not define "college", so whether it reaches a private university such as Fordham is not stated in its text, though Fordham's policy says it complies with it | /nil/college/new-york |
What is specific to Fordham
Fordham's policy has an artificial intelligence clause: it bars "any activities that promote the use of artificial intelligence that is contrary to Fordham's missions or values", next to limits tied to its Jesuit identity and its Nike agreement. Fordham leans on its New York City address: the Rose Hill Exchange was pitched to "local businesses, donors, alumni, and fans", and in 2022 Fordham announced that a sports lawyer and Fordham Law graduate, Dan Lust of Moritt Hock & Hamroff, would advise the department on NIL matters. Fordham plays football in the Patriot League and most other sports in the Atlantic 10, and its policy treats prospects differently from enrolled athletes: the extra Fordham restrictions start only at full-time enrollment.
How Leave fits
In Leave, every deal thread carries a rules summary for the athlete's state and level, and keeps the contract, its dates and the disclosure deadline that applies. It is a summary, not a ruling; the school and the law decide. Leave is software, not an agent, and takes 0% of any deal. You decide, you send.
Questions about NIL at Fordham
Does Fordham pay its athletes?
Fordham is on the College Sports Commission's list of revenue-sharing schools for 2026-27, with a cap of about $21.58 million per school. Fordham has not published a revenue-sharing statement or breakdown on its athletics site.
How do Fordham athletes report NIL deals?
Three timelines appear. Fordham's 2023 policy allows 30 days after payment or signing; its donors page says seven days before the activity, with compliance approval first; and New York law has athletes disclose a contract to the college before signing it. NCAA Bylaws 22.2.2 and 22.2.2.2 also call for reporting third-party deals of $600 or more to NIL Go within five business days.
What NIL deals are Fordham athletes not allowed to take?
Fordham's policy bars gambling of any kind, alcohol, cannabis, tobacco and vaping, prescription drugs, performance enhancing drugs, adult entertainment, deals conflicting with its Nike agreement or Jesuit values, and AI promotion contrary to Fordham's mission or values, and reserves the right to restrict other categories.
Is there an NIL collective for Fordham?
None is named on Fordham's athletics site. Fordham points businesses to its Rose Hill Exchange on INFLCR and to Student Athlete Empowerment, an NIL agency it partnered with in 2021.
Do NIL agents need to be registered for Fordham athletes in New York?
Fordham's policy says so for activity in New York: representation "must be from individuals registered and/or licensed by the state of New York", which the policy ties to § 6438-c. The statute names agents registered under General Business Law article 39-E and lawyers licensed in New York. It does not define "college", so whether it reaches a private university such as Fordham is not settled in its text.
