| How deals are disclosed | NCAA: third-party deals of $600 or more go to NIL Go within five business days (Bylaws 22.2.2, 22.2.2.2). Alabama State's own rule: Not published. | Revenue sharing | The College Sports Commission lists Alabama State as participating in 2026-27 and puts the cap at "approximately $21.58 million per school" (read 2026-10-22). ASU's Hornet Student-Athlete NIL Fund (launched 2025-07-16) lets donors and fans "contribute directly to revenue-sharing models and NIL support structures"; ASU said on 2026-09-03 the fund "raised more than $500,000 in its first year". ASU partnered with Scout (2025-07-23) for "revenue-share distribution, cap management tools" and financial literacy training. Its 2025-11-19 basketball ticket price increase says "a portion of the new ticket revenue will directly support revenue-sharing opportunities for basketball student-athletes". No per-sport allocation is published | College Sports Commission; Alabama State Athletics, NIL Fund (2025-07-16), Scout (2025-07-23), Basketball Ticket Pricing (2025-11-19), Five Years of Transformation (2026-09-03) |
| Collective or NIL group | No independent collective is named on ASU's athletics site. The Hornet Student-Athlete NIL Fund is ASU's own giving vehicle, separate from the Hornet Club annual fund; ASU events raise money for it, including Birmingham Football Classic suites (2026-08-11) and the 2026 Basketball Tip-Off Dinner on 2026-10-27, whose "proceeds from the event will benefit the Hornet NIL Fund" (2026-10-16). ASU's site also carries a 2025-07-29 release on a Victory Snacks program that puts all 12 SWAC schools on school-branded snacks and beverages, with revenue going to each school's "institutional NIL initiatives" | Alabama State Athletics, NIL Fund (2025-07-16), Football Classic Suites (2026-08-11), Tip-Off Dinner (2026-10-16) and Victory Snacks (2025-07-30) |

What is specific to Alabama State
Alabama State, a public HBCU in Montgomery, has built its NIL program around school-run tools rather than a written policy or an outside collective. In 2022 its announcement of Icon Source's Icon Suite marketplace quoted Icon Source calling ASU "the first HBCU to adopt this type of software", and it added an adidas NIL ambassador program through Postgame the same year. After the House settlement it launched the Hornet Student-Athlete NIL Fund (2025-07-16), which ASU describes as a way for donors to fund revenue sharing and NIL support, and it became the first SWAC school to adopt Scout's platform for revenue-share distribution and cap management (2025-07-23). ASU also says it was the first HBCU to distribute Alston Awards. With no state NIL statute and no posted school policy, the written rules an ASU athlete can read are the NCAA's and the College Sports Commission's.
How Leave fits
In Leave, every deal thread carries a rules summary for the athlete's state and level, and keeps the contract, its dates and the disclosure deadline that applies. It is a summary, not a ruling; the school and the law decide. Leave is software, not an agent, and takes 0% of any deal. You decide, you send.
Questions about NIL at Alabama State
Does Alabama State pay its athletes?
Alabama State is on the College Sports Commission's list of schools participating in revenue sharing for 2026-27, and the Commission puts the 2026-27 cap at about $21.58 million per school. ASU uses Scout's platform for revenue-share distribution and says its Hornet Student-Athlete NIL Fund supports revenue sharing. It has not published how the money is divided.
What is the Hornet Student-Athlete NIL Fund?
A fund Alabama State launched on 2025-07-16 for alumni, fans and donors to "contribute directly to revenue-sharing models and NIL support structures". ASU says it does not replace the Hornet Club annual fund, and on 2026-09-03 it said the fund raised more than $500,000 in its first year, a total for the fund. Proceeds from ASU's 2026 Basketball Tip-Off Dinner go to the fund.
How do Alabama State athletes report NIL deals?
NCAA Bylaws 22.2.2 and 22.2.2.2 call for NIL Go reports of third-party deals of $600 or more within five business days. ASU has not posted a disclosure rule of its own; its 2022 Icon Suite marketplace included a disclosure login, and its current use was not confirmed.
Does Alabama State have an NIL policy?
None is posted on its athletics site as of 2026-10-22. The Compliance Office lists a phone number and email for questions, and Alabama has no NIL statute that would set rules for the school.
Is there an NIL law in Alabama?
Not for college athletes. Alabama's 2021 NIL law was repealed on 2022-02-03. The athlete agent act still requires agents who handle endorsement contracts to register with the Secretary of State.
