Cincinnati NIL rules.

Cincinnati opted into revenue sharing, runs its NIL program in-house as Cincy Connect NIL, and its NIL page says every deal, at any dollar value, is disclosed in NIL Go.

The short answer. Cincinnati Athletics wrote on 2025-06-09 that it had opted into the House settlement and planned to be "a full revenue-sharing participant", funded in part by the Athletics Impact Fund, and the College Sports Commission lists UC as a participating school for 2026-27. UC's NIL page (undated, read 2026-10-21) says "All NIL agreements and benefits regardless of dollar value must be disclosed through NIL GO", stricter than the NCAA's $600 threshold (Bylaw 22.2.2), and Ohio law has an athlete disclose a proposed NIL contract to the school before entering it (R.C. 3376.06(C)). The same page bars deals tied to gambling, alcohol, performance-enhancing supplements, controlled substances including marijuana, tobacco or vaping, and adult entertainment.

School NIL policyNo standalone NIL policy document was found on gobearcats.com or uc.edu. UC's rules appear in three places. The NIL page (Cincy Connect NIL, read 2026-10-21) opens its FAQ with a "NIL Policy" heading that says it "governs the activities of University of Cincinnati student-athletes in pursuing compensation" for NIL; it limits NIL work to the athlete's "own free time" and bars it during official team activities or travel, including practices, meetings, team meals and media sessions. The 2026-27 Student-Athlete Handbook (file dated 2026-07-09, linked as "Student-Athlete Handbook" in the gobearcats.com menu) bars use of UC trademarks, logos, uniforms or facilities without prior written permission and sets steps for violations: a written warning first, then "restricted NIL support status" for the rest of the semester, which suspends content support and deal facilitation by Cincy Connect NIL. The handbook also sets a jersey policy: UC "will not facilitate or otherwise participate in any" NIL jersey sales, and an athlete buys a jersey through athletics equipment before selling itCincinnati Athletics, Name, Image and Likeness page (read 2026-10-21); Student-Athlete Handbook 2026-27
How deals are disclosedNIL Go for third-party deals of $600 or more within five business days (NCAA Bylaws 22.2.2, 22.2.2.2). UC asks for more. The NIL page (undated, read 2026-10-21) answers "Do I have to disclose NIL deals under $600?" with "Yes. All NIL agreements and benefits regardless of dollar value must be disclosed through NIL GO", and says "Non-cash benefits (free gear, meals, services, etc.) must be disclosed". The 2026-27 handbook (dated 2026-07-09) says "Student-athletes must disclose all NIL activities using the designated INFLCR and NCAA NIL platform(NILGO). Deals must be approved through UC's NIL oversight process to ensure compliance", and its promotional activities section says an athlete "must submit a disclosure form on NILGo and the contract must be approved prior to receiving any compensation". UC's trademark office page (undated, read 2026-10-21) says athletes "disclose the NIL details to Athletics Compliance through ARMS". An athlete may let one representative, such as an agent, enter deal details, but the athlete submits the final disclosure, and UC faculty or staff may not act as the representative. Ohio law separately has the athlete disclose a proposed NIL contract to the school's designated official before entering it (R.C. 3376.06(C))Cincinnati Athletics NIL page; Student-Athlete Handbook 2026-27; UC Trademark Licensing, NIL Requests; NCAA Division I Manual 2026-27; R.C. 3376.06
Banned categoriesTwo UC lists differ. The NIL page (undated, read 2026-10-21) answers "What NIL activities are not allowed?" with gambling or sports betting, alcohol, performance-enhancing supplements, controlled substances (including marijuana), tobacco or vaping products, adult entertainment, and "Any product or service that conflicts with the values or mission of the University of Cincinnati (UC) or reflects adversely on UC Athletics". The trademark office page (undated, read 2026-10-21) bars endorsing a company associated with "a controlled substance, marijuana product, medical marijuana product, alcoholic product, tobacco product, electronic smoking device, vapor product, or product or device that consists of or contains nicotine", does not list gambling, and bars supporting a non-University group whose mission is based on protected characteristics or is otherwise contrary to University rule 10-13-01. The 2026-27 handbook (dated 2026-07-09) lists "Promoting distilled spirits, tobacco, and/or adult entertainment business" among activities that "may impact one's amateur status". Ohio law lets a school prohibit NIL contracts tied to controlled substances, marijuana, alcohol, tobacco, vaping and nicotine products, adult entertainment, casinos or gambling, and similar categories it communicates before the athlete enrolls (R.C. 3376.07)Cincinnati Athletics NIL page; UC Trademark Licensing, NIL Requests; Student-Athlete Handbook 2026-27; /nil/college/ohio
School marks and group licensingCommercial use of UC marks takes written permission from UC Trademark and Licensing Services; the NIL page says use is "usually permitted" when the partner brand already holds a UC license. UC's trademark office takes requests through an NIL Brand Request Form, shares business uses with UC Athletics and Bearcats Sports Properties, and answers within 5 business days. An athlete may identify factually as a UC or Bearcats player without approval when no other UC marks, jerseys or red and black colors are used. The trademark office page says athletes "must request permission prior to engaging in any NIL activity that requires the use of UC Athletics uniforms, equipment, or gear", and the handbook requires prior written approval for NIL activity on campus or in UC-issued gear. UC's IMPACT page says Brandr runs group licensing that pairs athletes' rights with UC marks, and a Campus Ink NIL Store with merchandise "officially licensed by the University of Cincinnati" launched on 2026-05-28UC Trademark Licensing, NIL Requests; Cincinnati Athletics NIL and IMPACT pages; Campus Ink NIL Store announcement (2026-05-28)
Revenue sharingThe College Sports Commission lists UC as participating in 2026-27 and puts the cap at "approximately $21.58 million per school". On 2025-06-09 Cincinnati Athletics wrote that it had opted into the settlement, that it "plans to be a full revenue-sharing participant in line with its Big 12 peers", and that the Athletics Impact Fund, launched with the university in April 2025, would help fund it. UC has not published how it divides the money. Ohio law lets schools pay athletes for NIL but not with student fees (R.C. 3376.09)Cincinnati Athletics, "House v. NCAA Settlement Explained" (2025-06-09); College Sports Commission; /nil/college/ohio
Collective or NIL groupUC's own NIL program is Cincy Connect NIL, which the NIL page says "oversees all Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) activities for Bearcat Student-Athletes"; the 2026-27 handbook says it "will periodically facilitate NIL opportunities through third-party partners". The NIL page names no collective and points supporters to the Athletics Impact Fund and NIL merchandise. The last school release found naming a collective, dated 2024-05-08, called Cincy Reigns "the official Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) Collective of Cincinnati Athletics" and sold its memberships at gobearcats.com/reigns, which returned a not-found page on 2026-10-21. Cincy Reigns' current status and relationship with UC were not confirmed by the schoolCincinnati Athletics NIL page (read 2026-10-21); Student-Athlete Handbook 2026-27; Cincy Reigns release (2024-05-08)
Agents and representationThe 2026-27 handbook lists as permissible an athlete agreeing to be represented by an agent or organization "in the marketing of his or her name, image or likeness", and as not permissible representation for athletics ability. Any agent who contacts an athlete or UC about representation for athletics ability "must be registered with the Athletics Compliance Department, the state of Ohio, and their respective players' associations or unions". The NIL page says agents enter deals in NIL Go for the athlete to confirm and directs agents to the Associate AD for Student-Athlete Management. Ohio law requires athlete agents to register with the Ohio athletic commission (R.C. 4771) and, for contracts entered on or after 2026-03-20, bars NIL agent contracts that run past eligibility (R.C. 4771.021)Student-Athlete Handbook 2026-27; Cincinnati Athletics NIL page; /nil/college/ohio

State lawOhio's R.C. Chapter 3376, rewritten in 2025 and amended in 2026, lets Ohio colleges pay athletes for NIL, has athletes disclose a proposed deal to the school before entering it, lets schools bar listed categories, and voids NIL contracts that outlast eligibility; in force/nil/college/ohio

What is specific to Cincinnati

Cincinnati runs NIL as a department unit rather than leaning on an outside collective. Its NIL page says UC "was named the Best Institutional NIL Department at the 2024 NIL Summit", and its handbook section describes a service model with brand coaching, contract review appointments booked through Teamworks, social media audits and tax guidance. That service comes with conditions specific to UC: when Cincy Connect NIL finds a third-party opportunity it contacts the athlete by one phone call and one text, and the athlete "must respond by 11:59 PM ET on the day of outreach", and "Failure to respond by the deadline will result in forfeiture of that opportunity and its associated payment" (handbook, 2026-07-09). A second trademark violation suspends that support for the rest of the semester. UC's disclosure rule also reaches further than the NCAA's, covering every deal and every free product regardless of value, and Ohio law adds its own disclosure to the school before a contract is entered. The NIL page says use of UC marks is "usually permitted" when the athlete's partner brand already holds a UC license, and the trademark office lists corporate partners whose contracts can conflict with an athlete's deal; on 2026-08-31 Cincinnati Athletics named the Jeff Wyler Automotive Family the jersey patch partner for football and men's basketball and called it the department's "largest corporate partner".

How Leave fits

In Leave, every deal thread carries a rules summary for the athlete's state and level, and keeps the contract, its dates and the disclosure deadline that applies. It is a summary, not a ruling; the school and the law decide. Leave is software, not an agent, and takes 0% of any deal. You decide, you send.

Questions about NIL at Cincinnati

Does Cincinnati pay its athletes?

Cincinnati Athletics wrote on 2025-06-09 that it had opted into the House settlement and planned to be a full revenue-sharing participant, with the Athletics Impact Fund helping to pay for it. The College Sports Commission lists UC as a participating school for 2026-27, when the cap is about $21.58 million per school. UC has not published how it splits that money among sports or athletes.

How do Cincinnati Bearcats athletes report NIL deals?

Through NIL Go, the College Sports Commission's portal. The NCAA requires third-party deals of $600 or more to be reported within five business days (Bylaws 22.2.2, 22.2.2.2), but UC's NIL page (read 2026-10-21) says "All NIL agreements and benefits regardless of dollar value must be disclosed through NIL GO", including free products. The 2026-27 handbook (dated 2026-07-09) adds that deals "must be approved through UC's NIL oversight process" and that the contract "must be approved prior to receiving any compensation", and Ohio law has the athlete disclose a proposed contract to the school before entering it.

What NIL collective works with Cincinnati?

UC's current NIL page names no collective; it describes Cincy Connect NIL, the athletics department's own unit, and points supporters to the Athletics Impact Fund. The last school release found naming a collective, dated 2024-05-08, called Cincy Reigns the official NIL collective of Cincinnati Athletics. Its school-hosted membership page returned not found on 2026-10-21, and UC has not published Cincy Reigns' current status.

What NIL deals are banned at Cincinnati?

UC's NIL page lists gambling or sports betting, alcohol, performance-enhancing supplements, controlled substances including marijuana, tobacco or vaping, adult entertainment, and products that conflict with UC's values or mission or reflect adversely on UC Athletics. UC's trademark office page has a separate, partly different list. The trademark office also says that if a term of a proposed deal conflicts with UC's own contracts, Athletics will tell the athlete what has to change. Ohio law (R.C. 3376.07) lets schools bar listed categories and similar ones communicated before enrollment.

Can Cincinnati athletes use UC logos or uniforms in NIL deals?

Only with written permission. UC's trademark office reviews requests through an NIL Brand Request Form and answers within 5 business days, and uniforms, equipment or gear need permission before use. Without approval, an athlete may still say factually that they play for Cincinnati, as long as no UC marks, jerseys or red and black colors appear.
