The rules at CSUN
| Question | What is published | Source |
|---|---|---|
| School NIL policy | Not published. CSUN Athletics' Compliance Services Office page links NCAA guides, a booster guide and a continuing-eligibility chart but no NIL policy, and the athletics site's navigation has no NIL page (read 2026-10-24). No California State University system NIL policy was found; an information item to the CSU Board of Trustees' Committee on Educational Policy (January 27-29, 2025) says the CSU's athletics programs "are managed at the campus level" | CSUN Athletics, Compliance Services Office; CSU Board of Trustees, Committee on Educational Policy, Agenda Item 6 (January 27-29, 2025) |
| How deals are disclosed | NIL Go for third-party deals of $600 or more within five business days (NCAA Bylaws 22.2.2, 22.2.2.2). CSUN has not published a disclosure process or platform of its own. California law requires each NIL contract to be disclosed to an official the school designates (Educ. Code § 67456(e)(2)); CSUN has not published who that official is | NCAA Division I Manual 2026-27; /nil/college/california |
| Banned categories | Not published. California's statute lists none, and CSUN's athletics site publishes no category list | CSUN Athletics (read 2026-10-24); /nil/college/california |

The university's 2023 CSUN Athletics Brand Guidelines say "All logos and artwork depicted within this guide are trademarks of CSUN. Any use without consent of the University, or its licensing agent is strictly prohibited." CSUN's 2026-03-25 release says Influxer offers athletes "the chance to sell personalized merchandise with their school's officially licensed branding", that "All designs are approved by the university" and that athletes opt in to the store. A group licensing program is not described | CSUN Athletics, Influxer release (2026-03-25); CSUN Athletics Brand Guidelines (2023) |
| Revenue sharing | The College Sports Commission lists California State University, Northridge as participating in 2026-27 and puts the cap at "approximately $21.58 million per school" (read 2026-10-24). CSUN has not published a revenue-sharing statement, total or split by sport on its athletics site | College Sports Commission |
| Collective or NIL group | Not published. CSUN's athletics site names no collective. Its only announced NIL partner is Influxer, which CSUN called "the first official partner of Matador Athletics in the name, image and likeness space" on 2026-03-25 | CSUN Athletics, Influxer release (2026-03-25) |
| Agents and representation | Not published by CSUN for NIL. State law: schools may not prevent professional representation (§ 67456(c)(1)); § 67456(c)(2) says it must come from persons licensed by the state, with athlete agents under the Miller-Ayala Athlete Agents Act, which has an athlete agent file information with the Secretary of State before doing business (Bus. & Prof. Code §§ 18895.2, 18896); agents must also comply with the federal Sports Agent Responsibility and Trust Act (§ 67456(c)(3)) | /nil/college/california |

| State law | California Education Code § 67456 (Fair Pay to Play Act), in force since 2021-09-01, protects NIL pay and representation, requires each NIL contract to be disclosed to the school and lists no banned categories; in force | /nil/college/california |
What is specific to CSUN
CSUN has published almost nothing in writing about NIL. Its athletics site has no NIL page or policy, and its one NIL announcement is commercial: on 2026-03-25 it named Influxer, a Dallas company founded in 2022, as the first official NIL partner of Matador Athletics. The release says each athlete who opts in gets a personal store selling hats, shirts, jerseys and other items with university-approved designs, and that Influxer offers free one-on-one coaching on "social media marketing to taxes to reading contracts". The release quotes Influxer CEO Keith Miller on working with Ryan Swartwood, whom the staff directory lists as Director of Athletics, and the CSUN administration. Beyond that, the written rules a CSUN athlete can find are NCAA Bylaw 22.2.2 reporting through NIL Go and California's § 67456, which requires each NIL contract to be disclosed to an official the school designates. CSUN is the name the Big West uses for California State University, Northridge.
How Leave fits
In Leave, every deal thread carries a rules summary for the athlete's state and level, and keeps the contract, its dates and the disclosure deadline that applies. It is a summary, not a ruling; the school and the law decide. Leave is software, not an agent, and takes 0% of any deal. You decide, you send.
Questions about NIL at CSUN
Does CSUN pay its athletes?
The College Sports Commission lists California State University, Northridge as a revenue-sharing school for 2026-27, with a cap of approximately $21.58 million per school. CSUN has not published a statement on how much it pays athletes or how it divides the money among sports.
Does CSUN have an NIL policy?
None is posted on CSUN's athletics site as of 2026-10-24; the Compliance Services Office page links NCAA and booster guides only. NCAA reporting through NIL Go and California's Education Code § 67456 still apply, and the Compliance Services Office is the published contact.
How do CSUN athletes report NIL deals?
Through NIL Go: NCAA Division I Bylaws 22.2.2 and 22.2.2.2 require third-party deals of $600 or more to be reported within five business days. California law also requires each NIL contract to be disclosed to an official CSUN designates; CSUN has not published who that is.
What NIL company or collective works with CSUN?
CSUN names no collective. On 2026-03-25 it announced Influxer as the first official NIL partner of Matador Athletics, giving athletes who opt in a personal store of university-approved merchandise and free coaching on topics such as taxes and contracts.
Does the California State University system set NIL rules for CSUN?
No CSU systemwide NIL policy was found. An information item to the CSU Board of Trustees' Committee on Educational Policy (Agenda Item 6, January 27-29, 2025) said NIL within the CSU "has largely been managed through external collectives", which "are not currently governed by any CSU policies or regulations". The CSU Ad Hoc Intercollegiate Athletics Task Force's recommendations were called "preliminary" in the committee's minutes of 2025-03-25.
