LMU NIL rules.

LMU opted into revenue sharing and says it can now sign NIL deals with athletes directly. Its July 2025 policy sends third-party deals of $600 or more to NIL Go.

The short answer. LMU says it "has opted in" to the House settlement and "is now allowed to enter Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) agreements directly with student-athletes", and the College Sports Commission lists LMU as a 2026-27 revenue-sharing school, with a cap of about $21.58 million per school. LMU's NIL policy dated 2025-07-22 says third-party deals of $600 or more go to NIL Go within five business days, that LMU staff "may also act as a marketing agent" for outside deals, and that agents and lawyers for NIL work must be licensed in California.

School NIL policy"Name, Image, and Likeness" policy dated 7.22.25 (posted 2025-07-25), with a student-athlete FAQ updated 7.25.2025. It says athletes may earn pay for NIL "or athletic reputation" if the deal does not conflict with LMU Athletics or team contracts, that "LMU may enter into an agreement for the use of a student-athlete's NIL", that LMU staff may act as a marketing agent for noninstitutional deals, and that athletic performance "may not be the 'consideration'" for NIL pay. LMU's older NIL web page (marked "Updated 7.28.2022"), still live, gives earlier rules, including that LMU and its staff "shall not provide compensation" to current or prospective athletesLMU Athletics, NIL Policy (2025-07-22) and NIL FAQ (2025-07-25); LMU Athletics, Name, Image, Likeness page
How deals are disclosedThe 2025 policy, the FAQ and the 2026-27 Student-Athlete Handbook say noninstitutional, third-party deals with total pay of $600 or more (or several deals with one payer that add up to $600) are reported to NIL Go "within five business days of execution", matching NCAA Bylaws 22.2.2 and 22.2.2.2; LMU's FAQ says failing to report puts "athletic eligibility at risk". LMU's older NIL web page (updated 7.28.2022) says athletes disclose NIL agreements to the athletic department "within four days" through ARMS forms, as "a component of the California state law"; California's statute requires disclosure to a school-designated official with no deadlineLMU NIL Policy (2025-07-22); LMU NIL FAQ (2025-07-25); LMU Student-Athlete Handbook 2026-27; NCAA Division I Manual 2026-27; /nil/college/california
Banned categoriesCalifornia's statute lists no banned categories. LMU's policy bars deals that conflict with LMU Athletics or team contracts, naming Adidas, University Credit Union and Coca-Cola as examples, and NIL activity that conflicts with academic or team activities. School marks and group licensingUse of LMU or athletics marks and logos, "including any aspects of the uniform", needs permission "in advance and in writing through an agreement granting specified use rights", requested from Stephanie Teresi, Associate Director for Trademarks, Licensing, and Promotional Assets. The Collegiate Licensing Company is LMU's licensing agent. Athletic facilities need advance approval and a location agreement. Revenue sharingLMU's ROAR LMU page says "LMU has opted in" and that LMU "fully intends to support this initiative with select student-athletes" through direct NIL agreements, in return for which athletes "generally" are "expected to serve as good ambassadors for LMU". The College Sports Commission lists LMU as participating in 2026-27 and puts the cap at "approximately $21.58 million per school". Collective or NIL groupLMU's NIL web page (updated 7.28.2022) says that, thanks to a donor, a "collective" organization "has launched for the benefit of our student-athletes" and links to a Magis Lions website; on 2026-10-23 that link no longer led to a collective site. LMU's ROAR LMU page says "We no longer need our NIL funded by a third-party collective like Magis Lions, as we can enter into agreements directly with our student-athletes." Agents and representationThe policy allows representation by a licensed California agent or California lawyer "ONLY for Name, Image and Likeness and NOT for future professional athletic contract negotiations", citing Education Code § 67456(c)(2). The 2026-27 handbook says the Compliance Office "requires all agents be registered with Loyola Marymount University and the state of California before contact is made", and that agents who are contacted by athletes or families "must then inform the Compliance Office". What is specific to LMU

LMU has written down its move from a donor collective to its own NIL deals. Its NIL web page still asks fans to back a donor-funded collective, while the athletics fund's ROAR LMU page says LMU no longer needs NIL "funded by a third-party collective like Magis Lions" because it can contract with athletes directly, offering pay beyond a full scholarship to athletes a coach "considers deserving". LMU was the first West Coast Conference school to place an Altius Sports Partners NIL general manager on campus (2023), and its 2025-26 annual report lists a "NIL'ion Lab" workshop on building a personal brand. LMU's July 2025 policy also states that LMU staff may act as a marketing agent on an athlete's outside deals.

How Leave fits

In Leave, every deal thread carries a rules summary for the athlete's state and level, and keeps the contract, its dates and the disclosure deadline that applies. It is a summary, not a ruling; the school and the law decide. Leave is software, not an agent, and takes 0% of any deal. You decide, you send.

Questions about NIL at LMU

Does LMU pay its athletes?

LMU says it opted in to the House settlement and can now sign NIL agreements directly with athletes, which it intends to do "with select student-athletes". The College Sports Commission lists LMU as a 2026-27 revenue-sharing school, with a cap of about $21.58 million per school. LMU has not published how much it pays or to whom.

What NIL collective works with Loyola Marymount?

LMU's NIL page (updated 7.28.2022) names a donor-launched collective, Magis Lions, but its link no longer led to a collective site on 2026-10-23. LMU's ROAR LMU page says LMU no longer needs NIL "funded by a third-party collective like Magis Lions" because it contracts with athletes directly.

How do LMU athletes report NIL deals?

LMU's 2025 policy, FAQ and 2026-27 handbook say third-party deals of $600 or more, alone or added up with the same payer, go to NIL Go within five business days of signing. An older LMU web page still describes a four-day disclosure through ARMS; the 2025 documents do not repeat it.

Can an agent represent an LMU athlete for NIL?

Yes, for NIL only. LMU's policy says the agent must be licensed in California, or the lawyer a member of the State Bar of California, and representation may not cover future professional contracts. The 2026-27 handbook says the Compliance Office requires agents to be registered with LMU and the state of California before contact is made with athletes or coaches.

Can LMU athletes wear LMU gear in NIL posts?

Only with written permission through an agreement granting specific use rights, the LMU FAQ says; that covers logos, marks and any part of the uniform. Requests go to LMU's Associate Director for Trademarks, Licensing, and Promotional Assets.
