Indiana NIL rules.

Indiana's 2024 NIL policy bars gambling, alcohol and tobacco deals and says NIL agents register with Indiana's attorney general. Indiana has no college NIL statute.

The short answer. The "Indiana Athletics NIL Policy", effective 2024-08-01, bars NIL promotion of gambling, alcohol, tobacco, adult entertainment, NCAA-banned substances and illegal products, and says "Agents must be registered with the Indiana Attorney General's Office". Indiana has no college NIL statute. NCAA Bylaws 22.2.2 and 22.2.2.2 send third-party deals of $600 or more to NIL Go within five business days, while the IU policy says athletes "are encouraged to disclose any NIL activities" through a disclosure form in TeamWorks "within ten (30) days following the NIL activity". The College Sports Commission lists Indiana University, Bloomington as a participating school for 2026-27, and the athletics staff directory lists an Assistant Athletic Director for Revenue Share.

It has eleven sections: philosophy and educational resources, NCAA guidance, NIL activities, agents, university intellectual property, team activities and academics, facility use, restricted categories, disclosure, financial aid and international athletes. It says athletes "may engage in NIL activities and receive corresponding compensation from University donors or sponsors so long as the compensation is for the NIL activity and is not a recruiting inducement or an inducement to remain enrolled at IU". The undated All For You page says "Indiana University asks all student-athletes to disclose their NIL deals within 7 days of agreement being signed." What is specific to Indiana

With no state NIL statute, Indiana's rules come from its own documents. The Indiana University Student-Athlete Bill of Rights, "first passed in 2018" and in its current version dated November 2025, lists "Assistance to Maximize Your NIL and Financial Opportunities" as its sixth right, saying IU partners "with industry experts and campus resources to provide education, including financial management". IU Athletics and Merchants Bank reported on 2026-08-07 a five-session financial literacy series, attended by athletes from all 24 varsity programs, covering money psychology, budgeting, financial management, taxes and investing, and "Agents and Contracts". IU also launched the Indiana NIL Exchange with Teamworks Influencer on 2024-09-03, described then as a free portal where businesses find athletes, send payments and generate 1099 forms, and where "IU Athletics and Influencer are not involved in any NIL negotiations". The policy's line on donors stands out: athletes may be paid by "University donors or sponsors" for NIL work so long as the pay is not an inducement to enroll or to stay.

How Leave fits

In Leave, every deal thread carries a rules summary for the athlete's state and level, and keeps the contract, its dates and the disclosure deadline that applies. It is a summary, not a ruling; the school and the law decide. Leave is software, not an agent, and takes 0% of any deal. You decide, you send.

Questions about NIL at Indiana

Does Indiana pay its athletes?

The College Sports Commission lists Indiana University, Bloomington as a participating school for 2026-27, when the revenue sharing cap is approximately $21.58 million per school, and IU Athletics has an Assistant Athletic Director for Revenue Share. Indiana has not published how much it shares or how it divides the money.

What NIL collective works with Indiana?

IU Athletics called Hoosiers Connect "the Official NIL Collective of IU Athletics" in a release of 2024-11-12, and in 2023 named both Hoosiers Connect and Hoosiers For Good as its official collectives. No newer IU statement on them was found; on 2026-10-21 Hoosiers Connect's address forwarded to an apparel and events page and Hoosiers For Good's site did not load.

How do Indiana athletes report NIL deals?

Third-party deals of $600 or more go to NIL Go within five business days (NCAA Bylaws 22.2.2, 22.2.2.2). IU's 2024 policy also encourages disclosure through the NIL Disclosure Form in TeamWorks "within ten (30) days following the NIL activity", while an older IU NIL page asks for disclosure within 7 days of signing. Indiana has no state law on NIL disclosure.

Does Indiana have an NIL law?

Not for college athletes. Indiana's General Assembly has passed no college NIL statute. Its athlete agent law, IC 25-5.2, does reach agents who negotiate endorsement deals: they register with the attorney general, and IU's NIL policy repeats that agents "must be registered with the Indiana Attorney General's Office".

What NIL deals are banned at Indiana University?

IU's 2024 policy bars NIL promotion of gambling, alcohol products, tobacco products, adult entertainment, substances banned by the NCAA, and illegal products or services. Because Indiana has no NIL statute, the list comes from IU alone.
