The rules at Purdue
| Question | What is published | Source |
|---|---|---|
| School NIL policy | No standalone NIL policy document was found. Purdue publishes its NIL rules on two athletics pages: "NIL Go INFO" (prohibited and allowable NIL activities, Purdue's role and a step-by-step procedure, which the page calls "this policy") and "Frequently Asked Questions about Name, Image and Likeness" (separate answers for businesses and for athletes). The NIL Go page says Purdue "will provide education regarding NIL rules, regulations, and opportunities to student-athletes, but will not facilitate or advise student-athletes on specific NIL activities unless student-athletes elect to opt in to institutional assistance" | Purdue Athletics, NIL Go INFO and NIL FAQs (read 2026-10-21) |
| How deals are disclosed | NIL Go for third-party deals of $600 or more within five business days (NCAA Bylaws 22.2.2, 22.2.2.2). Purdue's NIL Go page lists among activities "Purdue University and/or the NCAA prohibit" "Entering any agreement that equals or exceeds $600 in value prior to submitting the agreement to NILGo.com", sets out a procedure in which the athlete provides the agreement to NIL Go before entering it and accepts payment once the deal is cleared, and also says "All third-party deals must be reported to NILGo.com within five business days of execution of the agreement". The FAQ says "Any NIL deal that is over $600 must be disclosed to NIL Go", that contracts are disclosed "before the contract is signed and before any compensation is provided", and that "student-athletes are required to disclose any NIL opportunities at the time of enrollment". Athletics Compliance reviews disclosed NIL activities for conflicts | Purdue Athletics, NIL Go INFO and NIL FAQs; NCAA Division I Manual 2026-27 |
| Banned categories | Purdue's FAQ says athletes may not receive NIL compensation for promoting gambling, alcohol, sports betting, performance enhancing supplements, controlled substances, marijuana, tobacco, or "Any Product Inconsistent with Values & Mission of the University or Reflects Adversely on the University or Athletics". The NIL Go page also lists pay tied to athletic performance and NIL use of athletics facilities without written consent among prohibited activities. No Indiana statute lists banned NIL categories | Purdue Athletics, NIL FAQs and NIL Go INFO; /nil/college/indiana |
| School marks and group licensing | The FAQ says "Only Purdue corporate sponsors and licensed partners are allowed to use Purdue logos, marks, phrases, or slogans in NIL activities", including team-issued gear and INFLCR content, and that plain gold and black apparel without Purdue marks may be worn; permission to use marks is "granted or declined during the disclosure process". The NIL Go page requires written consent of Purdue University Trademarks and Licensing and CLC. Purdue's NIL page links an NIL store, the Purdue Team Store's athlete collection and Athlete's Thread for athlete merchandise. No group licensing policy is published | Purdue Athletics, NIL FAQs, NIL Go INFO and Boiler BrandWorks page |
| Revenue sharing | The College Sports Commission puts the 2026-27 cap at approximately $21.58 million per school and lists Purdue as a participating school. Bobinski's letter of 2025-06-07 says schools like Purdue may share revenue "up to an initial year annual cap of $20.5 million", estimates a loss of "$1.2 million per year in planned NCAA revenues for the next decade" from the settlement's back damages, and says University leadership committed to "partner with Purdue Athletics to ensure our ability to fully participate". A 2025-02-06 release says Purdue's assistant athletics director for resource and contract management handles "planning and tracking the distribution of revenue share payments". No 2026-27 amount is published | Purdue Athletics, "Step Up and Be Bold" (2025-06-07) and Tanner Ball release (2025-02-06); College Sports Commission |
| Collective or NIL group | Boiler BrandWorks, Purdue's in-house NIL unit announced 2025-06-07, works "directly with student-athletes to develop their personal brands and source meaningful NIL partnerships with donors, alumni and businesses", with a Boilermaker Marketplace run on INFLCR. It is part of the athletics department, not a collective. Boilermaker Alliance calls itself "the Exclusive Name Image and Likeness Collective for Purdue University" in a 2023-12-12 announcement on its own site, which also says it is "an independent corporation" that receives "no funding from Purdue University"; Purdue's NIL pages do not mention it, and the latest dated item on the Alliance's home page on 2026-10-21 was that announcement | Purdue Athletics, Boiler BrandWorks page and Bobinski letter (2025-06-07); Boilermaker Alliance website (read 2026-10-21) |
| Agents and representation | Purdue's compliance page asks agents who want to contact or represent a Purdue athlete to complete Purdue's Agent Registration form and links the Indiana attorney general's athlete agent page. The NIL Go page says athletes may work with third-party services "which includes the use of agents; tax advisors; marketing consultants; attorneys; and brand management companies". Indiana's athlete agent law, IC 25-5.2, covers agency contracts for endorsement contracts, requires registration with the attorney general and gives the athlete 14 days to cancel | Purdue Athletics, NCAA Compliance and NIL Go INFO; IC 25-5.2 |
| Compliance contact | Purdue Athletics Compliance Office (purduesports.com/ncaa-compliance), whose staff are listed in the athletics staff directory under Compliance; possible violations can be reported through the Purdue Hotline. NIL deal and disclosure questions go to the Director of NIL Strategy and Athlete Marketing at dpicios@purdue.edu, according to the NIL FAQs | Purdue Athletics, NCAA Compliance, Staff Directory and NIL FAQs |
| State law | No statute. Indiana has passed no college NIL law; its athlete agent act (IC 25-5.2) requires agents who negotiate athletes' endorsement contracts to register with the attorney general and makes agent misconduct a felony | /nil/college/indiana |
What is specific to Purdue
Purdue answered the House settlement by building its own NIL shop rather than leaning on an outside group. The same 2025-06-07 letter that described revenue sharing announced Boiler BrandWorks, and Purdue's NIL page lists a three-person team that crosses department lines: a Director of NIL Strategy and Athlete Marketing, a business development associate for NIL from Purdue Sports Properties (Learfield), and the Associate Athletics Director for Business Strategy, Strategic Resource and Cap Management. Purdue sets a boundary on its own role: it will not advise on specific deals unless an athlete opts in, and when it helps, the athlete "maintains independent authority" over the agreement and is "not required to accept institutional assistance". Purdue's FAQ also tells businesses that "Student-athletes are to be considered contractual 1099 employees" and that a deal cannot be tied to performance.
How Leave fits
In Leave, every deal thread carries a rules summary for the athlete's state and level, and keeps the contract, its dates and the disclosure deadline that applies. It is a summary, not a ruling; the school and the law decide. Leave is software, not an agent, and takes 0% of any deal. You decide, you send.
Questions about NIL at Purdue
Does Purdue pay its athletes?
Purdue participates in House settlement revenue sharing. Bobinski wrote on 2025-06-07 that from July 1, 2025 Purdue could share revenue directly with athletes up to the first-year cap of $20.5 million, and the College Sports Commission lists Purdue as a participating school for 2026-27, when the cap is approximately $21.58 million per school. Purdue has not published a 2026-27 amount or a per-sport breakdown.
What is Boiler BrandWorks?
Boiler BrandWorks is Purdue Athletics' in-house student-athlete marketing and brand-building unit, announced 2025-06-07. Purdue says it works directly with athletes to develop their personal brands and source NIL partnerships with donors, alumni and businesses, and it runs the Boilermaker Marketplace, where fans and brands can browse, book, pitch and pay Purdue athletes.
How do Purdue athletes report NIL deals?
Through NIL Go. NCAA Bylaws 22.2.2 and 22.2.2.2 call for third-party deals of $600 or more to be reported within five business days, and Purdue's NIL Go page says the same, "within five business days of execution of the agreement". The same page also lists among prohibited activities "Entering any agreement that equals or exceeds $600 in value prior to submitting the agreement to NILGo.com". Purdue's FAQ also says athletes disclose any NIL opportunities at the time of enrollment.
Can Purdue athletes use Purdue logos in NIL deals?
Only through Purdue corporate sponsors and licensed partners, according to Purdue's FAQ; that covers team-issued gear and INFLCR content too. Plain gold and black apparel without Purdue marks may be worn, and permission for marks is granted or declined during disclosure.
Is Boilermaker Alliance Purdue's NIL collective?
Boilermaker Alliance describes itself on its own site as "the Exclusive Name Image and Likeness Collective for Purdue University" and as an independent corporation that receives no funding from Purdue. Purdue's current NIL pages do not mention it; since 2025 Purdue's NIL work runs through its in-house Boiler BrandWorks unit.
